Eau Claire is french for "Clear Water", hence the two rivers that run through the county.
The largest city and seat is Eau Claire. It borders Chippewa, Clark, Jackson, Trempealeau, Buffalo, Pepin and Dunn Counties.
Main roads through the county include I-94, US-53, US-12, WI-93 and WI-312.
